Beej on Quitting

My second son Beej contributes his thoughts on never quitting......

One thing I learned, is to never quit. Because if you quit you lose. But even if you lose in a game or in life, but don't quit, your not a loser at all, you are a winner.

One time, I was playing basketball with my older brother. He was so good that mostly I cry when I lose. But did that teach me something? Of course! I felt good when my dad (Butch Jimenez) told me I didn't lose. But I was so confused!

" I Lost!" I cried out to my dad.

When he comforted me with his arms around my shoulders, he explained what a winner I was because I didn't quit.

That time i still did not get it, but now as I grow older I start to understand how important it is to never quit. If you start something, finish it. Win or Lose, don't quit. It's not whether you win or lose it's how you play the game. Never quit, finish!

Do you feel like quitting right now? Just give it one more day. Then if you feel like quitting again tomorrow, do the same thing. Just give it one more day. In fact, keep giving it one more day. Next thing you know, your situation has started to change for the better and giving it one more day was all you needed to make it through. If a kid can learn not to quit, so can you.

Sir Butch, finally i was able to read your entire blog.

That’s why children nowadays never cease to amaze me.

It happened to me when I watched my son’s first basketball championship game (in his new Jesuit high school). He really missed that final shot. As the loudest mom in the gym, I prayed, just give him that shot. The whole first year team esp his coach were banking on that shot. Unfortunately, the ball just circled around the ring and found its way out while my world crushed in front of me.
But you know what my son said after the game? Hey Mom! don’t worry about me its cool even Dwayne Wade missed a lot of big shots in his games. Stop being a cry mommy, those tears are not worth it.

Hah! Proud to be the Mom of a kid who takes losing w/ coolness.
