Teamwork - U can't do it alone
We are a people that loves heroes, winners and superstars. We adore the point guard that makes the buzzer-beating 3 point shot. We hail the coach that delivers the championship trophy. Or in the corporate world, we salute the CEO that delivers the profits for the year.
However, as much as we admire “the man who made it happen”, we should also never forget that it took other people, some of whom will never be seen, to bring home the championship…any championship.
The folly of superstars and successful leaders is when they start thinking they can succeed on their own. When people start concentrating on “ME” instead of “WE”. President Lyndon Johnson rightly said, “There are no problems we cannot solve together, and very few that we can solve by ourselves.”
The theory of relativity which revolutionized that world has always been attributed to just one man, Albert Eintstein. But Einstein himself acknowledges that, “many times a day I realize how much my own outer and inner life is built upon the labors of my fellow men, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received.”
It has been said that “one is too small a number to achieve greatness”. So we should never forget the value of teamwork. As we cheer the superstar, we must also realize the work and the effort put in by every other member of the team that made a significant contribution to the victory.
