Dumaguete - Snapshots of an under-rated haven

When you talk about beaches, the top of mind is always Boracay. When you talk about diving, it's Tubbataha. When you talk about marine interaction, it's whale-shark watching in Donsol. But what if you want all three? What if you want fantastic diving, a great beach, and an up close and personal look at marine mammals, more specifically dolphins? Then Dumaguete is the place to go.
It's best I stop talking and you start looking.
So here's a couple of snapshots of the beaches in Apo Island and Bais. When b
logspot allows video uploading, then I can share with you the underwater world and the hundreds of dolphins that played around our boat.Till then, enjoy the pics of the beaches first. Just that alone will tempt you to take out the sunblock and head off to Dumaguete.
There are 2 beaches in Dumaguete featured in this section-Apo Island and the Sandbar in Bais.
Apo Island is about a 45 minute boat ride from Dumaguete City. The Apo Island Resort has a great white beach and fantastic rock formations. It has a modest restaurant, and about 5 cottages you can rent. If you want to just hang out in the beach, the fee is only P50 consummable.

Bais on the other hand is an hour drive from the city and a 30 minute boat ride to the fabulous sandbar. It's great for children since during high tides, you get sprawling white sand in just waist deep of clear water. During low tide, the sand bar emerges, and they get a huge sandbox to play around on. There are only 3 cottages for rent on the sandbar, and you have to bring everything.
In both beaches, you'll have to "rough it up". No electricity, no running water, no internet, and no television. There's a Smart signal though, so you're still connected.
But as you can see in all our faces, we had a blast.

Hi, can you tell me something about zoekmachine optimalisatie or zoekmachine marketing? I wonder what is the beste nederlandse internet marketing
Thanks for letting all of us who are unaware of these very beautiful places in our very own country, know how beautiful it is. I hope I, too, can take the time to check all the places you've highlighted. Send us more. Thanks again.
i've attended a lot of graduation ceremonies before, but the 2006 SU commencement was one of the best (other than the time I graduated of course)... for the first time ever, the speaker connected to the audience, and it was a speech that would stick in your mind forever... your message was truly inspiring.. hopefully, you could post your message somewhere, so that others could be inspired too...
Way to go Mr. Jimenez! I'm a Dumaguetena and i really appreciate all the wonderful things you said about our place. Am sure a lot of people would be curious as to the real feel of being in all these places themselves. Growing up here has truly helped me appreciate nature in the truest sense, being surrounded by trees and all especially during my college years at Silliman, a natural habitat for one.

Dumaguete has been promoting itself as one of the country's foremost IT hubs...Outsourcing giants SPi and Teletech are there, as well as homegrown outsourcing outfits such as Entheos IT and several other software and back-office businesses. Having you as the commencement speaker of Silliman is very timely as the outsourcing industry in Dumaguete is just starting to take off.
Yes, not being biased, Dumaguete is probably one of the most beautiful places in the country. Although working in an international organization near manila, i still miss my hometown very much and looking forward to going home every now and then...
Hi Sir Butch,
I visited Apo Island last year right before closing the first run of "Once On This Island" the musical in Manila.
Apo Island is one of the best places on earth! The people were very friendly!
I'll wait for my Tubbataha DVD, ok?
I'm all set to visit Donsol, Sorsogon end of May 2006 (my b-day weekend!). Hope to interact with the gentle whale sharks.
God Bless,
Oliver

Hi Mr. Jimenez....today is one great Divinely led day because I've finally found your blog after some failed attempts in the past.
I was at the SU Commencement Rite last March 2006 and for the first time, I had my attention and focused on your speech, especially on like ocassions. Your speech already created a profound impact on me right there and then. For months, I could not let go of your words, that I just felt the need to get a copy thereof and share it with others who were not there. And I just did that now, few seconds ago after printing out a copy. I hope and pray that just by reading it will make a difference in their lives too as it did to me and countless others who were there.
By the way, am leaving soon for the US....and am bent on doing exactly those two things/favors you asked: 1) Do good (excel is preferred) and make the Phil. proud; and 2) Come back and GIVE back....i will, in no uncertain terms!

Dear Mr. Jimenez,
This is really amazing. Most of us didn't know that there are such beautiful places in the Philippines like the ones you featured in your blog. Hope that common citizens like me can also have the chance to go to beautiful places in our country.
